We greet the Ancestors (in the shape of red-hot volcanic rocks) as they enter the Temazcal bath which symbolizes Mother Earth’s womb. We were there to purify ourselves with the heat, herbs and chants and prepare ourselves to be born again. Temazcal is a ceremonial sweat bath used as a way of offering, cleansing, requesting or showing gratitude to the Universe. Volcanic rocks are heated and placed in the center; the door closes sealing off the light and keeping the heat inside and the ceremony begins with chant, prayers and silence. Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico.
